2017 Legislative Coffee
We were once again honored by all those in attendance of HCP’s 3rd Annual Legislative Coffee held on February 28, 2017 at the Community House in Hamilton.
We thank Senators Bruce Tarr and Joan Lovely, Representatives Ann-Margaret Ferrante, Brad Hill, Jerry Parisella, Marven Hyppolite of Congressman Seth Moulton’s office, and all who represented their local communities — 10 in all represented!
Two of HCP’s residents, Michael Fucillo and Kate Desmond, who is also a HCP Board member, opened the session by sharing their personal experiences as residents of Rockport High School Apartments.
As a member of the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations (MACDC), Andrew DeFranza, Executive Director of Harborlight Community Partners provided an overview and asked for support of MACDC’s Policy Agenda, specifically:
Andrew also expressed thanks for legislative support of the Community Investment Tax Credit program, HCP’s award of $150,000.00 in tax credits for 2016, and presented an overview of our 2016 accomplishments and 2017 pipeline, with much made possible with the CITC program.
Throughout the morning discussion the emphasis was on the importance to develop more affordable housing for seniors and families in our local communities, and the regional zoning and other obstacles we face across the North Shore that challenge meeting those goals.
We will continue to report on HCP’s efforts to further the mission to provide quality affordable housing and supportive services for low income elders and families living in our area communities.
