Whipple Riverview Place – Ipswich, MA

At the lovely and unique Whipple Riverview Place, all of the rental units feature central heat/air conditioning, modern appliances, galley kitchens, tall arched windows overlooking the Ipswich River, and handicap-adaptable features. Laundry facilities, a resident lounge, and off-street parking are also provided. A beautiful riverfront walking trail is steps away. An interesting feature of Whipple Riverview Place is its 3000 square foot green roof, thriving with vegetation. The lush roof-top links man-made and natural environments by providing natural onsite management of stormwater runoff. The soil and plants absorb rainwater, and the plant roots remove and filter pollutants. The green roof at Whipple is especially vital as it helps protect the adjacent Ipswich River from Whipple Riverview Place was originally developed by the North Shore Housing Trust. The building, originally a power plant and later a storage facility for Ipswich’s middle school, Whipple Riverview Place has been revitalized and transformed into a modern affordable housing development for seniors.

Rockport High School Apartments – Rockport, MA

Rockport High School Apartments is integral to the Rockport community, a beautiful building within walking distance of Bearskin Neck. Having been a high school for many decades, as well as a municipal building, this old school maintains its unique, stately charm. Residents can even find original black boards and coat hooks throughout its 31 units. On-site parking, laundry facilities are available; the common areas offer vibrant community engagement and programs. HCP preserved the affordability of the apartment building in 2013, with the support of the Town of Rockport Community Preservation Committee and others. Significant updates were made to the building at that time to both the interior and exterior of the building.

Pigeon Cove Ledges, Rockport, MA

Pigeon Cove Ledges is located in a peaceful setting in Rockport by Pigeon Cove, surrounded by a serene landscaped yard and within view of a beautiful quarry in the distance. . Pigeon Cove Ledges offers 30 one-bedroom units for fixed income elders; on-site parking and laundry facilities are available. Common areas and a library “cove” offer gathering space, making this a welcoming community. A serene landscaped yard wraps the building, with the quarry off in the distance. The building was an important preservation project; affordable units were are risk of becoming market-rate when HCP was able to step in, with the support of the Rockport community, to purchase the facility ensuring its affordability. Several significant updates were made at that time, including the addition of an elevator.
