Beverly to be Honored by Affordable Housing Organization, The Beverly Citizen, November 13, 2010

Affordable housing organization Harborlight Community Partners is going to honor the city of Beverly for its investments in the rehabilitation of the We Care About Homes working family housing in Beverly. The city will be honored, along with several other municipalities and organizations, during HCP’s annual event, which will be held at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem on Saturday, Nov. 20.

Our young people and elders, our employees and neighbors ¦.they need safe, decent places to live and the supportive services to make that sustainable,  said Harborlight Executive Director Andrew DeFranza.   As North Shore communities we want to make those kinds of homes available in contextually sensitive ways.   As partners we can make that happen. 

Beverly Mayor Bill Scanlon will accept the award on behalf of the city, the Planning Department, the Community Development Department and the City Council.

The town of Hamilton will be honored for its support of Firehouse Place, the first Community Preservation Fund supported affordable project. Town Manager Michael Lombardo will accept the award for the town, the Board of Selectmen, the Community Preservation Committee and the Housing Partnership.

The town of Rockport will be honored for its work in preserving affordable elder housing at Pigeon Cove Ledges. Town Manager Linda Sanders will accept the award for the town, the Board of Selectmen, the Community Preservation Committee and the Housing Partnership.

SeniorCare and its executive director, Kay Bierwiler, will be honored for their steadfast support of fixed income elders at Turtle Creek and Turtle Woods. Bierwiler will accept the award along with many members of the SeniorCare Board.

And, the Marblehead Community Housing Corporation will be honored for its nearly 20 years of effort creating affordable housing opportunities for families.

HCP provides a wide range of housing with services primarily for low and moderate income people living in southern Essex County.   HCP provides single, family and elder housing and assisted living in a variety of communities.
